Create & Cultivate DTLA

IMG_1681edit-4615edit-4607edit-4618

This past weekend I made a quick trip to Downtown Los Angeles with my friend, colleague, and fellow blogger, Mel of My Everyday Lifestyle, for Create & Cultivate. There were two tracks at the conference and we took different tracks in order to hear all of the speakers. I was able to listen to speakers such as Clare Vivier, Alexandra Amodio of beGlammed, Mara Ferreira of M Loves M, Taylor Sterling of Glitter Guide, Christine Andrew of Hello Fashion, Jessica Alba, and my favorite, Rachel Zoe.

We started our morning off with a delicious breakfast from Patina Restaurant Group that included mini blueberry pancakes, chi parfait, avocado toast, and of course Alfred coffee. My first two sessions were The Future of Fashion: Trends, Tech, & Bridging Online & Off and Fresh Faced: An Unfiltered Look at the Business of Beauty. A few things I took away from these sessions included:

“Walk forward with blinders on and keep your eyes on a goal. Do not focus on the competition…. Even if a post doesn’t turn into dollars, it is building your brand.” –Clare Vivier

“Always say yes, you’re never too good for anything… there is always something you can learn from it.” –Nikki DeRoest

“If it’s inside you, you should do it. Work hard. Oprah was not built in a day.” –Sarah Gibson Tuttle

“Have real friendships with other women instead of focusing on comparing yourselves.” –Sarah Gibson Tuttle

“Snapchat and real time content is the future of social media.” –Evelina Cartasova

“Suck it up and don’t compare yourself to other people… don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle, understand where you are.” –Evelina Cartasova

We enjoyed salads from Sweetgreen for lunch, then I attended Video Pros: Harnessing the Power of Digital Platforms to Build Your Brand and Blog Powerhouses: The #BossLadies Slaying the Content Game. I took away some great advice that pertained more specifically to blogging, that included:

“If you don’t have a passion for it, don’t do it. You will end up spreading yourself too thin.” –Chriselle Lim

“Being on time is the most important thing. Brands talk about influencers just as much as influencers talk about brands.” –Christine Andrew

“Be yourself. Do not try to be another blogger. You will just be second best.” –Andy Torres

The day ended with our bomb keynote speakers, Jessica Alba and Rachel Zoe. Jessica was in conversation with Katherine Power and Hillary Kerr of Clique Media Group, and Rachel was in conversation with her friend and jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer. Some of my favorite quotes from Jessica Alba included:

“One thing I undervalued in starting a company was the importance of trusting your gut, they don’t teach you that in business school.”

“I don’t identify a problem and bone out, I identify a problem and get in the nitty gritty… I am very involved in all aspects of the company from IT, UX to creative and marketing.”

“Being an actress is like being rejected by the hottest guy in school everyday.”

“Mentor those people in your life and open those doors to help them along the way… It’s absolutely important for women to support each other.”

And my favorite quotes from Rachel Zoe included:

“I want to help motivate women at a very young age, to help them accomplish anything.”

“It is all about being honest, kind, and forthcoming, both internally and externally.”

“I don’t think you can be good at something if you don’t just love it. You need both patience and passion to succeed.”

“If you just hire really talented people you can just let them be and not have to micromanage.”

“Don’t micromanage, but you need to watch people because you can get hurt, just trust your gut.”

“Taking the high road is really hard, but it is always better. You have to believe that good people win in the end.”

“Social media has become how we speak to each other, it is essential to business. I don’t think you can have a business right now without some sort of social presence.”

If you ever have a chance to attend Create & Cultivate, it is well worth it! They will be announcing their next city on May 16th. xoxo

Fitness Routine with KiZE

edit-1456edit-1470edit-1472edit-1501edit-1489edit-1507edit-1522edit-1532

Jacket: Under Armour // Sports Bra: Under Armour // Leggings: Under Armour // Shoes: Nike // KiZE Concepts

When I booked my cruise a few months ago I started buying swimsuits like crazy, then I quickly realized that I needed to get back into my fitness routine. I love being outdoors when I am working out instead of in a smelly gym, so the recent heat in Dallas has encouraged me to get out more. Theses cropped leggings from Under Armour are great for outdoor workouts, because they provide more coverage than shorts but breathe well in warm weather. I typically do interval workouts, so this galaxy print sports bra from Under Armour helps me stay cool during high intensity portions of my workout.

Post workout I am typically starving and look for a healthy snack that will benefit my workout with protein and unprocessed ingredients. KiZE Concepts are a delicious way to help me fuel my best and gain the most from my fitness routine. Not only are KiZE bars made with all-natural ingredients you can recognize on the label, but they also give back 10% or one bar of every box to their “Feeding Fund”. This fund helps provide either food or funds to their community partners (Oklahoma Cleats for Kids, Tenaciously Teal and With All My Heart). My favorite flavors include Vanilla Almond, Cocoa, Peanut Butter and Almond Butter. KiZE uses natural and recognizable ingredients such as raw sage honey, gluten free rolled oats, pure whey protein, raw almonds and unsweetened cocoa. If you live in Dallas you can purchase KiZE bars at Whole Foods (Uptown, Highland Park, Forest Lane and Richardson locations), The Pilates Barre, The Juice Bar and Zynn 22!

Back in White

edit-0852-2edit-0809edit-0841-2edit-0814edit-0795-2

Jeans: Gap  (similiar pair) // Top: Urban Outfitters // Shoes: Kate Sapde // Necklace: BaubleBar

Easter was last weekend, which means I’m back in white (jeans)! I was raised with very strict instructions to only wear white after Easter and before Labor Day, so I am still getting use to the idea of winter white and have not figured out how to pull it off yet. White jeans pair so well with light neutral colors like these tan Kate Spade heels and my favorite tee in sand from Urban Outfitters. I found these skinny white jeans at Gap and love the cropped leg and high waisted fit. I am wearing a size 25 and it fits well through the leg with enough stretch to move around. Shop more of my favorite light neutrals to pair for spring below! xoxo

Blue Shirt Dress

edit-0422edit-0406edit-0419edit-0465edit-0431edit-0450

Dress: Cloth & Stone Utility Shirt Dress (comes in blue, light pink, sand and white) // Shoes: Kate Spade (comes in black too) // Necklace: BaubleBar // Sunglasses: Urban Outfitters

Cloth & Stone is one of my favorite brands sold at Anthropologie, they have the softest material and very flattering cuts. This dress was an obvious buy for me as soon as I tried it on, because it is so comfortable and casual. I chose to buy the sky blue color (also comes in light pink, sand and white) because the other colors were slightly see through and looked more of a beach vibe. I am wearing a size extra small, which fits well through the hips and is long enough to be work appropriate with heels. My only complaint about this dress is that the material, while it feels great, easily wrinkles.

I wore this dress to a Dallas Meetup event last Wednesday evening at Lion + Witch where Ashley from The Teacher Diva spoke about her journey though blogging and the importance of analytics. Lion + Witch (located in Highland Park) is owned by the same lady who owns Milk + Honey on Greenville, but Lion + Witch has a completely different feel and style. If you live in the Dallas area, I highly recommend checking out their new arrivals and inspiring store decor! xoxo

Striped Set

edit-9032edit-9068edit-9133edit-9036

Top: ASTR Off the Shoulder Crop Blouse // Skirt: ASTR Stripe Button Front A-Line Skirt // Bag: Neiman Marcus

I recently booked my first cruise, and even though it is a whole 60 days away, I immediately started shopping for beach clothes (whoops)! I found this striped set at Nordstrom and both the skirt and top are currently 40% off the original price! I ordered the crop top in a small just in case it was tight on the arms, but I would have been fine with an extra small (it does not fit tightly on the arms). Since the skirt is fitted at the waist, I ordered it in an extra small. I love the button detail down the front of the skirt, as well as the very useful pockets. This striped set is perfect for a day at the beach or a causal patio dinner. Shop more of my favorite beach ready sets below! xoxo
