Black Blazer

ccBlack Blazer - A Pearl Kind of Girl Black Blazer - A Pearl Kind of Girl Black Blazer - A Pearl Kind of Girl

Blazer: Topshop // Tank: J.Crew // Jeans: Paige // Shoes: Marc Fisher // Earrings: Kendra Scott

What a week it has been! We received some sad news that our dog of 11 years, Scout, has cancer. He is hanging in there and we are doing everything to make him comfortable, but I have been focused on spending time with him. There has also been nonstop rain here in Dallas, which finally let up this weekend, thank goodness. The sunshine is giving us hope spring around the corner, but temperatures are still a little chilly. This light weight black blazer has been perfect for the hint of spring weather.

This black blazer fits true to size (wearing a small), but has longer fitting sleeves. I ended up rolling the sleeves twice, so the sleeves fit at a mid length, which I prefer anyways. The material is much more light weight than most blazer, and layers best with a tank top or short sleeve shirt. I paired it with a neutral silk camisole and my favorite cropped jeans, for a casual work day, but it can be worn over a slip dress for dinner. To complete my look I added these Marc Fisher heels that I absolutely love and now own in three colors (I knew I would end up buying all the colors). Shop this entire look below! xoxo

Black Slip Dress

Dress: ASOS // Jacket: Nordstrom // Shoes: Banana Republic // Clutch: Rebecca Minkoff

I bought yet another black dress (whoops). I have honestly stopped counting, but it was hard to resist the simplicity of this black slip dress. If you follow me on Instagram, you saw my story where I posted a poll to help me decide between this pink dress and the outfit above for our Valentine’s Day dinner. The black slip dress won, and Alex died laughing when I showed up to our Valentine’s dinner head to toe in black. This dress has a straight cut, and because of that I decided to go a size up. The size 0 fit great in the top, but was a little snug though the hips, so I ended up ordering a 2. I used the adjustable straps to make the top fit better. I knew this black slip dress would easily become a staple in my closet and can be dressed up or down with simple accessories. For dinner I decided to pair it with a few other staples in my closet, including this faux leather jacket, black strappy heels, and my favorite black clutch. Shop this look and a few similar dresses below! xoxo

Red Velvet Dress

Red Velvet Dress - A Pearl Kind of Girl Red Velvet Dress - A Pearl Kind of Girl Red Velvet Dress - A Pearl Kind of Girl Red Velvet Dress - A Pearl Kind of Girl Red Velvet Dress - A Pearl Kind of Girl

Dress: Ali & Jay // Shoes: Charles David // Clutch: Rebecca Minkoff // Earrings: J.Crew

Valentine’s Day is this Wednesday! Last week I shared this pink dress that I was planning on wearing for Valentine’s Day, but now I am torn between a few dresses. Not only is that pink dress perfect for Wednesday, but this red velvet dress would be great too and there is even a black slip dress in the Valentine’s Day mix as well (yes, another black dress).

This red velvet dress fits true to size (wearing a small) and has adjustable straps, which made the top of this dress a lot less loose. It is a faux wrap dress, so it has the flattering look of a wrap dress, but a zipper up the back. The bow in the front is the perfect touch of feminine detail completing the faux wrap look. I paired this red velvet dress with my go-to black pumps, Rebecca Minkoff clutch and some fun black beaded earrings. Shop this look and some of my other favorite red velvet dresses below and wish me luck in deciding between three great Valentine’s Day dresses! xoxo

3 Great Wedding Planning Tools

3 Great Wedding Planning Tools - A Pearl Kind of Girl3 Great Wedding Planning Tools - A Pearl Kind of Girl3 Great Wedding Planning Tools - A Pearl Kind of Girl

I have said it before and i’ll say it again. Planning a wedding is so much harder than I imagined. There are a billion little things you have to do to prepare, and about a billion more that I want to do to make our day extra special. Since my mom and I are doing this without the help of a wedding planner, I am sharing 3 great wedding planning tools.

Online Resources: The Knot, Style Me Pretty, the Wedding Wire, and even Pinterest are all great online resources for wedding planning. The first thing I did after we got engaged was set up our Knot website, and started reading through the Knot’s checklist. I have found some great vendors and tips through Style Me Pretty and the Wedding Wire as well. I live by online reviews, and it has been so helpful to read reviews and experiences from past brides as I am making my own decisions. Pinterest has been a great tool for inspiration and building mood boards.

Magazines: I have always been a magazine person, and have especially enjoyed flipping through bridal magazines. In the same way that Pinterest is great for inspiration and mood boards, magazines are too and have some insightful articles. D Weddings has been my favorite bridal magazine because of the Dallas specific information. Emily Post has a few wedding etiquette books to help you learn the “rules” of a wedding (I have disregarded a few “rules”).

Word of Mouth: Everyone and their mom (literally) will have wedding advice for you. Take it all with a grain of salt, but just as you might trust online reviews, personal reviews can be very helpful. It has been great to hear stories from other brides who have had their reception at the same place as us or used the same florist. It has been helpful to think back on weddings we have attended and specific things we enjoyed about each one, and then ask the bride which vendor they used. You will get some kooky advice and a lot of personal options, but some brides will share lessons learned that you can avoid. We have found our florist, makeup artist, bakery and reception venue all through word of mouth.

Good luck planning! xoxo

Valentine’s Day Dress

Valentine's Day Dress - A Pearl Kind of Girl Valentine's Day Dress - A Pearl Kind of Girl Valentine's Day Dress - A Pearl Kind of Girl Valentine's Day Dress - A Pearl Kind of Girl Valentine's Day Dress - A Pearl Kind of Girl Valentine's Day Dress - A Pearl Kind of Girl Valentine's Day Dress - A Pearl Kind of Girl

Dress: WAYF // Shoes: Zara (similar) // Earrings: J.Crew (similar) // Lipstick: NARS

This year for Valentine’s Day, I decided to trade in my typical all black look for something a little more colorful and feminine. I wasn’t really looking for a Valentine’s Day dress when I came across this WAYF dress, but I loved the fit and how easily it could be dressed up. Alex was so surprised when I told him that I picked something besides a black dress to wear for our Valentine’s Day dinner.

This pink wrap dress is currently marked 40% off at Nordstrom, just in time for Valentine’s Day! It fits true to size (wearing a small) and the cut is very flattering. My only complaint is how easily the material wrinkles, as you can see in the photos. The real stress test will be sitting though dinner, and seeing just how wrinkled the dress is when we leave the restaurant. This dress would also be great for a daytime or outdoor wedding this spring. I added my favorite nude sandals, simple gold earrings, and a dark red lip to complete my Valentine’s Day look. Shop some more great Valentine’s Day dresses and accessories below! xoxo
