Perks of a Neutral Wardrobe

Perks of a Neutral Wardrobe - A Pearl Kind of Girl Perks of a Neutral Wardrobe - A Pearl Kind of Girl Perks of a Neutral Wardrobe - A Pearl Kind of Girl

A hot pink dress that I can’t seem to part with is really the only color in all of my closet. I am frequently asked why I don’t wear more color or why I hate color. I don’t really hate color and I occasionally wear it, but I have found so many perks of a neutral wardrobe. Some of these perks have actually transitioned over to home decor and that is probably fueling the theory that I hate color. So what are the perks of a neutral wardrobe? A neutral wardrobe is timeless. There is no arguing that little black dress or classic white button down will never be out of style. I have found that neutral pieces can be repeated more often and tend to last well beyond trends. I have also found that there is more attention to detail in neutral pieces giving them an elevated high end look. I hate to admit that I still wear pieces in my closet that I bought 5 or 6 years ago. A neutral wardrobe is versatile and practical. It is so easy to dress up, dress down and mix and match neutral pieces. This makes packing so much simpler, especially when flying and space is at a premium. The neutral color scheme makes it easy to travel with just a few pairs of shoes and bulk items like coats can can be paired with all outfits. A neutral wardrobe allows me to be more intentional. I used to have a much more colorful closet but started noticing that the trendy and colorful pieces often ended up in a giveaway pile. Instead of buying multiple colorful tops I now buy a few neutral tops that will go with most everything in my closet. Since I am buying less I can spend a little more on each piece and fill my wardrobe with quality over quantity. Shop some of my favorite neutral pieces below and discover the perks of a neutral wardrobe yourself! xoxo

White Eyelet Dress

White Eyelet Dress - A Pearl Kind of Girl White Eyelet Dress - A Pearl Kind of Girl White Eyelet Dress - A Pearl Kind of Girl

All dressed up and staying home. Throughout quarantine it has been nice to dress up once a week to feel more human, even if we are just sitting in the living room. While restaurants and hair salons have started to open, we are doing our best to stay home and help decrease the spread of COVID in Dallas. This white eyelet dress caught my eye a few weeks ago and couldn’t pass it up on J.Crew’s latest sale. I am hoping that by the end of summer I will have a few excuses to wear it besides happy hour in my living room. This dress fits true to size (wearing a 0) and the silhouette is very flattering. I love the simple elegance of a white eyelet dress for all summer activities. It is the perfect piece for showers, birthdays, barbecues, crawfish boils, dinner al fresco, Fourth of July, Memorial Day and Labor Day. I am sharing a few of my favorite white eyelet dresses below! xoxo

White Spring Sweater

Sweater: J.Crew // Jeans: Paige // Shoes: Shopbop // Sunnies: Karen Walker

We are on day 26 of the “shelter in place” order and I am getting very antsy. We are both working from home and really only leave our house to walk the dog (a few times a day) and go to the grocery store. We are sad to be canceling plans like Easter with family and our May trip to the UK. I am very hopeful that we can all do our part and get life back to normal sooner than later.

Since I am hardly (really never) leaving my house, I have been living in my favorite Lululemon leggings. While they are the most comfortable leggings in the world, I occasional miss getting dressed up for the office. I have made a new rule, that I going to put on real clothes at least once a week. Last week I threw on my favorite boyfriend jeans and this white spring sweater to pick up dinner and dine al fresco. I ordered this white spring sweater from J.Crew and it is the perfect weight for the transitioning Texas weather. It fits true to size (wearing a small) and pairs well with jeans, shorts or skirts. I love the rolled sleeve and neckline detail as well as the loose knit material. I paired this look with my new favorite sandals for summer and simple jewelry. Shop this white spring sweater and my entire look below! xoxo

Long White Cardigan

Cardigan: J.Crew // Sweatshirt: J.Crew // Jeans: Paige // Shoes: Marc Fisher // Earrings: Madewell // Sunnies: Karen Walker

I have officially switched my nail polish from back to light pink and I am ready for spring. Now if the weather would just corporate and heat up! I shared this Long White Cardigan in black a few months ago and had to go back and get it in white for spring.

Actually, I still have my eye on the heather khaki version because I love the shorter style in heather khaki so much.  This cardigan fits oversized, so I recommend buying a size down (wearing XS). I paired this long white cardigan with on old J.Crew sweatshirt, classic Marc Fisher heels and my new favorite pair of Paige jeans. These jeans (wearing a 24) are the same high rise cut as my other favorites but they are in a lighter wash and have a looser leg. They look super cute paired with a white blouse and mules but I am still waiting for the weather to allow that look. This cardigan also pairs well with a turtleneck and with a knee length skirt or dress. Shop this entire look below! xoxo

White Button Down Dress

Dress: Anthropologie // Belt: Vintage (similar) // Bag: Cult Gaia // Shoes: Dolce Vita (similar)

The amount of time between Easter and Labor Day is just too short. I cannot believe it is almost time to put away all my white shoes and dresses. It probably doesn’t feel right because the 100 degree temperatures will continue well through September in Dallas. So, I am getting all the wear I can out of this white button down dress before I have to hang it up for the next seven months.

I found this white button down dress at Anthropologie while returning a dress that was a little too colorful for me. I can imagine how far my moms eyes rolled when I sent her a picture of yet another neutral dress from the fitting room. I promised I would pair the white dress with her vintage belt to add some color to the outfit. This dress fit a little large (wearing an XS) so I recommend ordering a size down. I love how light weight the material is and that this dress is lined and not see through. The sleeves and length of this white button down dress give just enough warmth in a cold room but won’t make you sweat in 100 degree heat. Shop this look and some similar dresses below! xoxo

Navy and White Dress

Spring is finally here and thank goodness because I was starting to really miss the sunshine. My coworkers and I actually sat on the patio yesterday for lunch, and I left with a slight tan and much happier spirits after a full dose of vitamin D! With our wedding coming up (just 3 months away!), and warmer temperatures around the corner, I have started adding more white into my wardrobe. My first white purchase this spring was a pair of my favorite Marc Fisher pumps. Since I already own these pumps in tan, gold, and black, it was natural to just continue my collection for everyday wear. These white pumps paired perfectly with the white piping on this navy dress from J.Crew. When I saw this navy and white dress online, my first thought was how similar it was to this navy dress I already own from J.Crew. I added it to my cart and thought I would try it on anyways to see how it fit. Y’all, this dress is hands down my new favorite for spring, and I have already decided that I will be wearing this exact outfit for Easter! The material is a knit wool-cotton blend, so it is incredibly comfortable, and the weight of the material allows the dress to hang just right without clinging. I love that the sleeves come to about my elbows because I get cold so easily. This dress fits a little loose (I am wearing a small), but a size smaller probably would have fit a little better. I completed my Easter look with these gold hoop earrings (similar) and a classic straw clutch (similar). J.Crew is currently running a promotion on new items online or in-store, so you can get this dress 10-40% off with the code NEWNEW. I have linked this look and some other navy and white dresses that are perfect for Easter below! xoxo
