3 Ways to Wear Velvet

Who else decorates their house for Christmas the Friday after Thanksgiving? If you follow me on Instagram, you know I do! The Christmas season is by far my favorite time of year, particularly because there are so many reasons to dress up. I really like the velvet trend for the holidays, but velvet can be a little intimidating, and it is easy to feel like a 5 year-old if you wear too much. Since I had such a hard time styling velvet with other pieces in my own closet, I am sharing 3 ways to wear velvet this holiday season!
1. Velvet Skirt + Top – This velvet skirt pairs perfectly with a festive sweater. I liked the black bow detail on the sweater paired with the black skirt and tights, but a simple sweater or silk blouse (like this one) would work well too. This velvet look is perfect for holiday parties, especially at the office. Did I mention this skirt has pockets?!
2. All out Velvet – I paired the same velvet skirt with a matching tank, for a full velvet look. I wore the set with a leather jacket and heels to keep it from looking too juvenile. Of course all of my velvet pieces are black, but this top comes in 6 colors besides black and the skirt comes in 3 other colors.
3. Accessorize with Velvet – Incorporate velvet into your accessories like this hair bow, a handbag, or even shoes. I love how easily this black velvet hair bow dresses up a simple turtleneck and jeans.
I have linked some of my favorite velvet pieces as well as everything I am wearing below! xoxo

White Sweater

Sweater: Nordstrom // Jeans: Paige // Booties: Steve Madden

Is it too early to start decorating for Christmas? Asking for a friend… aka me, because I am so excited that the holidays are just around the corner! A few weeks ago we spent a long weekend in Detriot and the (freezing) cold weather had me ready for the holiday season. We are finally feeling a bit of the colder weather in Dallas and I was finally pulled my winter clothes out of storage. I bought this white sweater during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale earlier this year. It is currently sold out in white, but is available in black, red, purple and cobalt. I love the balloon sleeve detail and mock neckline, which makes this white sweater just that much warmer. T-50 days until Christmas!! xoxo

White Button Down

Apparently when you get engaged, people expect you to wear white everywhere you go ha. Since my bachelorette party is this weekend, I decided to swap some of the black staples in my closet for white versions. My bachelorette will be pretty casual in Austin, so I will be living in this white button down and jeans.

I saw this white button down in Anthropologie, and I immediately picked it up because I love the Cloth & Stone brand. The material they use is so soft and is easy to style. I am also a huge sucker for a classic white button down. The subtle embroidery on the sleeves, pocket, and across the back really sold me on this top. I paired it with my favorite cropped jeans and simple white pumps, but it also looks great layered under a blazer or tucked into a skirt for a less casual look. I rolled the sleeves because that was most comfortable to me, but they fit right at the wrist and do not run long or short (wearing a small). I added my new favorite bamboo bag to the casual look. If you have not checked out the Shopbop sale, this Cult Gaia bag is included for up to 25% off! Shop this entire look below! xoxo

I am enjoying this spring weather way too much! I always forget how much I really love the sun and warm (or even hot) weather. I found this tie-neck tank at J. Crew a few months ago, and I have been waiting for it to warm up enough to wear it without a sweater. I love how versatile this tank is. It can easily be tucked in, layered, or worn as is for all different looks. Not only does this tank come in light pink, orange, olive, jade, as well as black, but it is on sale for only $30! This tie-neck tank fits true to size (wearing a small) and can easily be tied in the front or the back. I paired it with my favorite jeans, Marc Fisher heels (on repeat), and this adorable bamboo handbag from Cult Gaia. I ordered this bag during the ShopBop sale for my honeymoon in Punta Cana, but I loved it even more in person and could not wait to add it in my wardrobe. I do still need to find a small cloth bag to keep in it to keep everything from falling through the slots though. Shop this look and similar pieces below! xoxo

Black Blazer

Blazer: Topshop // Tank: J.Crew // Jeans: Paige // Shoes: Marc Fisher // Earrings: Kendra Scott

What a week it has been! We received some sad news that our dog of 11 years, Scout, has cancer. He is hanging in there and we are doing everything to make him comfortable, but I have been focused on spending time with him. There has also been nonstop rain here in Dallas, which finally let up this weekend, thank goodness. The sunshine is giving us hope spring around the corner, but temperatures are still a little chilly. This light weight black blazer has been perfect for the hint of spring weather.

This black blazer fits true to size (wearing a small), but has longer fitting sleeves. I ended up rolling the sleeves twice, so the sleeves fit at a mid length, which I prefer anyways. The material is much more light weight than most blazer, and layers best with a tank top or short sleeve shirt. I paired it with a neutral silk camisole and my favorite cropped jeans, for a casual work day, but it can be worn over a slip dress for dinner. To complete my look I added these Marc Fisher heels that I absolutely love and now own in three colors (I knew I would end up buying all the colors). Shop this entire look below! xoxo

Camel Sweater

Sweater: Madewell // Jeans: Paige // Shoes: Marc Fisher // Earrings: Kendra Scott // Necklace: Gorjana // Sunnies: Karen Walker // Lipstick: NARS

This time last weekend, Alex and I had just finished shooting this look when we were in a bad accident on the Dallas North Toll Road. Luckily everyone was fine, but we were hit by a large pickup truck and Alex’s car was a total loss. If you follow we me on Instagram stories, you know that we bought a car this weekend and are already in love with Sewell Cadillac’s famed customer service. Now that we are back to owning two cars we can focus back on buying house (ugh).

It has taken me a little longer to write this post with everything going on this week, but I could not put off sharing this super warm camel sweater any longer. This sweater has been perfect for the recent 20-30 degree temperatures here in Dallas. It is 100% merino wool, and I just love the neutral camel color. I am wearing a size small and it has a slight over-sized fit and longer sleeves than I would normally buy. I paired this sweater with my favorite Paige jeans and nude Marc Fisher heels. Shop this look below! xoxo
