Black Slip Dress for Daytime

edit-1072edit-0870edit-1176edit-1092edit-0751edit-1188edit-1115edit-1108

Dress: Topshop // Sweater: Gap (similar) // Shoes: Marc Fisher // Sunnies: Karen Walker

I love finding pieces that can be styled into multiple looks such as this black slip dress from Topshop for Nordstrom. In the next few posts I will be showing three different ways to style this classic slip dress for all occasions. I have tried on a million slip dresses but fell in love with this one because it is lined and not sheer. Black is my favorite color, so naturally it was my first choice, but this dress comes in other colors including a light pink that I also love.

The first thing I like to do in the morning is grab coffee, and go through all my emails. This dress goes perfectly with a large knit cardigan when running out the door early in the morning. I am wearing a cardigan that I got from Gap last year, but they have a ton of similar cardigans in their new arrivals for fall! As the day gets hotter, this dress also looks cute with a jacket or sweater tied around the waist. I paired this look with my favorite Marc Fisher flatforms to add some subtle height without having to wear heels. These shoes are seriously as comfortable as wearing flats but give some extra length to legs when wearing a dress.

If you are ever near the Harwood District in Dallas, Magnolias Sous Le Pont is the cutest coffee shop. I enjoyed their medium roast during this shoot and my photographer had an iced latte that was so delicious! xoxo

Metallic Foil Sweater

edit-0115edit-0169edit-0133edit-0193edit-0106

Sweater: Banana Republic // Shorts: Nordstrom // Sunglasses: Karen Walker

Dallas weather changes like the wind, and it makes dressing for the day very difficult. Just last Saturday I started the morning in cold rain, and by noon I was getting a sunburn. Banana Republic has become one of my favorite places to find outfits that can easily transition through the seasons and the day. This metallic foil sweater has three quarter length sleeves and an open knit that allows it breathe. I am wearing a size small and it fits loose throughout (including the arms), but fits true to size in length. Not only does this sweater pair well with jeans or pants for fall, but I paired with with my favorite jean shorts for a cool summer morning. The metallic foil on this sweater will pair well with darker pieces for fall and winter looks. Shop the entire look below! xoxo

Burnt Orange Top

edit-0397edit-0372edit-0423edit-0322edit-0418edit-0365

Top: Nordstrom // Shorts: Nordstrom // Shoes: Marc Fisher // Sunnies: Karen Walker

When Nordstrom had their Anniversary Sale, this Socialite off the shoulder top was one of the first things I added to my basket. I love the tassels and lace detail on the bell sleeves. This top fits true to size (I am wearing a small) and has adjustable straps, so it will not fall off your shoulders. Since it is still 100 degrees in Dallas, I wore my favorite denim shorts from Levi’s. I am wearing a size 25 in the shorts and roll the cuff down once so they are longer in length. This burnt orange top is perfect for football season, (even though I will be cheering for Oklahoma!) and looks great with wide leg jeans for fall. The Marc Fisher flatforms are available in multiple colors, and the burnt orange top is also available in white. Shop the look below! xoxo

24 Hours in Austin

edit-0053edit-0025edit-0038edit-0060

Tank: Chloe & Katie // Jeans: Gap // Shoes: Marc Fisher // Sunnies: Karen Walker

This past weekend I made a quick (24 hour) trip to visit my cousin in Austin. Any Texan knows that no road trip would be complete without a stop at Buc-ee’s, so I had to pick up some beef jerky to hold me over until dinner. I met some friends downtown for dinner at La Condesa, and y’all, I have tired a million mexican restaurants, but this is one of the best! We started off with the guacamole sampler, which had a traditional guacamole, chipotle purée & toasted almond guacamole, strawberry guacamole, and jumbo lump crab guacamole (my favorite of the four). They also served four seasonal salsas, all of which were full of flavor and were very spicy. For my main course I ordered the Vida de Cameròn ceviche, which had poached shrimp, salsa vida, avocado, cherry tomato, cilantro, and smoked pasilla. The ceviche was so fresh and a great lighter option after eating my weight in guacamole. Make sure you have chips left on the table because you will want some to go with your ceviche. I split a side of Elotes (Mexican street corn) with a friend and it was absolutely worth the extra $6. We honestly should have ordered our own sides.

I went to bed happily full on tortilla chips, and looking forward to my next meal, brunch. My cousin took me to Moonshine Grill for their Sunday brunch buffet, which was basically any brunch food you can imagine! I enjoyed everything from jalapeño sausage and deviled eggs, to cinnamon rolls and apple turnovers. I might have gone through the line for seconds or thirds (don’t judge), so plan on having a full meal if you go for brunch. Before I left town, I had to stop at Jo’s Coffee on South Congress for my all time favorite Belgium Bomber (aka the best iced coffee you will ever have).

I am wearing this tank by Chloe & Katie that is currently only $22 during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale (through August 8th). I am wearing a size small, and it fits great under the arms and across the chest. The length is a little shorter than most shirts, but since my torso is not very long the length does not bother me. I am also wearing my favorite pair of ripped skinny jeans from Gap (run large, so order a size smaller) and my Marc Fisher flatforms (fit true to size). Shop the complete look below! xoxo

I Believe in Dallas

I Believe in DallasI Believe in DallasI Believe in DallasI Believe in DallasI Belive in Dallas

Dress: Gap // Shoes: Marc Fisher // Sunnies: Karen Walker

This past week Dallas has been shown in a negative light around the world. The atrocity that occurred in downtown Dallas last Thursday was very unsettling for all in the city, especially those of us who have lived here our entire lives. Not only was there a sadness for the multiple lives taken, but the Dallas community felt an extra weight knowing that our city would be known for yet another shooting.

It is rare that I feel unsafe in Dallas, in fact, I have always felt that Dallas was in some sort of bubble. I have witnessed extra care from citizens as well as the Dallas Police Department to make sure the city is as safe as possible for everyone, no matter their age, race, or gender. When I came across this “I Believe in Dallas” mural, in the design district, it instantly became one of my favorite spots in the city. If you asked someone who lives in Dallas, I am certain that the vast majority would say they believe in what the community of Dallas represents, myself included.

I want everyone who visits, or lives in Dallas to enjoy the city as much as I do on a daily basis. In addition to my new favorite mural, here are my favorite places to eat, shop, spend the day, and stay (or staycation).

My favorite places to eat:

Bistro 31, Hattie’s, Henry’s Majestic, HG Sply Co., Hillstone, Javier’s, LA Gourmet Pizza, Lark on the Park, Meddlesome Moth, Meso Maya, Mi Cocina, Neighborhood Services, Ocean Prime, Rise No.1, S&D Oyster Co., Savor, Snuffers, The Zodiac Room, True Food Kitchen, Velvet Taco (I could probably list a million more places, but will stop here)

My favorite places to shop:

Highland Park Village, Inwood Village, Mockingbird Station, Neiman Marcus Flagship, NorthPark Center, Preston Center, Snider Plaza, Stanley Korshak, The Shops at Park Lane

My favorite places to spend the day:

Dallas Arboretum, Dallas Farmers Market, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas World Aquarium, Dealey Plaza, George W. Bush Library, Katy Trail, Klyde Warren Park, Nasher Sculpture Center, Perot Museum, Sixth Floor Museum, Thanks-Giving Square, White Rock Lake

My favorite places to stay (or staycation):

Hotel ZaZa, The Joule, Omni Dallas, Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, Magnolia Hotel, Hyatt Regency Dallas, The W Hotel

I am wearing this simple black dress from Gap that is so comfortable and well priced. It is great to throw on when it is over 90 degrees out, and also great to layer in cooler weather. I paired it with these amazing Marc Fisher flatforms that I found at Nordstrom. These shoes are super comfortable/easy to walk in and go with almost all of my summer outfits. I am wearing a size small in the dress, but it still fits loose, and the flatform shoes fit true to size (wearing size 8). Shop my outfit below, and follow me on snapchat (taylorthompson7) to see more of my favorite places in Dallas! xoxo

Structured Red Dress

Structured Red Dress_1Structured Red Dress_2Structured Red Dress_3Structured Red Dress_4Structured Red Dress_5Structured Red Dress_6Dress: Banana Republic // Shoes: Banana Republic // Clutch: Banana Republic // Earrings: Banana Republic // Bracelet: Banana Republic // Sunglasses: Karen Walker

There is seriously little color in my closet, and for the longest time I have tried to add more color and failed. I have specifically searched for a versatile red dress in the past and finally found the perfect structured red dress at Banana Republic. I love the collar detail and hidden buttons all the way down the front of the dress. The pockets were of course a huge selling point for me, because everyone loves a dress with pockets! I ordered this dress in a size 0 and it fits well everywhere, but is a little tighter than I would like under the arms. The dress has a more tailored cut, but is still easy to move and walk in and is a great length for sitting.

I paired the structured red dress with 4 inch sandal heels (wearing size 8, fits true to size), but it could easily be paired with closed toe pumps for cooler temperatures. This black and gold clutch from Banana Republic went perfectly with my heels and is large enough to hold everything I need for a night out! I also found some simple gold jewelry at Banana Republic, including these hoop earrings and this bracelet (took me a while to figure out the clasp). This look is perfect for the summer heat but still nice enough for work or a wedding. Shop this look from Banana Republic below! xoxo
