3 Ways to Wear Velvet

Who else decorates their house for Christmas the Friday after Thanksgiving? If you follow me on Instagram, you know I do! The Christmas season is by far my favorite time of year, particularly because there are so many reasons to dress up. I really like the velvet trend for the holidays, but velvet can be a little intimidating, and it is easy to feel like a 5 year-old if you wear too much. Since I had such a hard time styling velvet with other pieces in my own closet, I am sharing 3 ways to wear velvet this holiday season!
1. Velvet Skirt + Top – This velvet skirt pairs perfectly with a festive sweater. I liked the black bow detail on the sweater paired with the black skirt and tights, but a simple sweater or silk blouse (like this one) would work well too. This velvet look is perfect for holiday parties, especially at the office. Did I mention this skirt has pockets?!
2. All out Velvet – I paired the same velvet skirt with a matching tank, for a full velvet look. I wore the set with a leather jacket and heels to keep it from looking too juvenile. Of course all of my velvet pieces are black, but this top comes in 6 colors besides black and the skirt comes in 3 other colors.
3. Accessorize with Velvet – Incorporate velvet into your accessories like this hair bow, a handbag, or even shoes. I love how easily this black velvet hair bow dresses up a simple turtleneck and jeans.
I have linked some of my favorite velvet pieces as well as everything I am wearing below! xoxo

Red Swimsuit

Swimsuit: J.Crew // Sunnies: Karen Walker

Is it obvious that I want to be back at the beach? I am already trying to convince Alex that it is time for another vacation, and I am not sure he is taking the hints (wink wink). When I started buying swimsuits this season I am pretty sure I ended up with 90% one pieces and most were black (of course). For some reason, I decided to channel my inner Baywatch and buy this red swimsuit. Color is so not my thing, but for some reason I ended up really loving this red swimsuit almost as much as the black swimsuit I shared a few weeks go. I am wearing a size 2, and it fits perfectly. In my post about the black one piece I also wore in Punta Cana, I talked about how well J.Crew swimsuits cover the backside. This red swimsuit fits very similar to the black one in that it have great coverage and is comfortable to wear all day. Shop this red swimsuit and some similar styles below! xoxo

25 Years

25 Years - A Pearl Kind of Girl 25 Years - A Pearl Kind of Girl 25 Years - A Pearl Kind of Girl 25 Years - A Pearl Kind of Girl 25 Years - A Pearl Kind of Girl 25 Years - A Pearl Kind of Girl

Dress: Free People // Wedges: Schutz // Clutch: J.Crew

Today is my 25th birthday! It is hard to image that I am a quarter of a century old when I still feel like I am 10 most days. I never thought I would be married, own a home, or still running a blog at this point in my life – but I am couldn’t be more happy with where I am! I wanted to share the five most important things I have learned in 25 years (and this amazing black dress!). I have learned that family and friends are always the most important, everything that happens is always a part of a larger plan, don’t take things so personally from others, treat others better than you want to be treated, and it is impossible to please everyone. There is a story behind each of these lessons, but no one has time for that 🙂 I cannot wait to see what I learn in the next 25 years!

Outfit details: I am wearing a black linen dress by Free People, paired with raffia woven wedges from Schutz. This dress is perfect for summer heat and so easy to dress up or dress down! It was perfect to wear out to dinner and on a night with friends. I love the details on the sleeves and the buttons down the front of the midi length dress. Shop everything you need to complete this look below! xoxo

Black Swimsuit

Black Swimsuit - A Pearl Kind of Girl Black Swimsuit - A Pearl Kind of Girl Black Swimsuit - A Pearl Kind of Girl Black Swimsuit - A Pearl Kind of Girl

Swimsuit: J.Crew // Sunnies: Karen Walker

Just about every swimsuit I looked at this year had an extreme bikini or almost thong cut on the bottoms. Besides the fact that I don’t want everyone looking at my backside, the thought of sitting in the sand or on a pool chair made my skin crawl. When I saw the swimsuits at J.Crew had more coverage, I ended up buying multiple styles and colors for our trip to Punta Cana. My favorite of all the swimsuits I bought was this classic black one piece. This back swimsuit has such a classic cut and is comfortable to wear at all times. It runs a little small (wearing size 2) so I recommend ordering a size larger than normal and comes in multiple colors. There was never a fear of flashing my backside or worries of looking overly modest. I wore this swimsuit to the beach and pool with a simple cover-up or just a skirt. Shop my favorite black swimsuits (with coverage) below! xoxo

Blue Striped Top

Top: Madewell // Shorts: Levi’s (similar) // Shoes: J.Crew (similar) // Bag: Cult Gaia

What a whirlwind the past two week have been. We are officially just one week away from the wedding, the house is just about pulled together and I am realizing that I do not have a thing to wear on our honeymoon! Besides a few swimsuits I had already purchased for summer, I am still on the hunt for great sandals, dresses and coverups to wear in Punta Cana. During my recent online shopping spree, I found this adorable blue striped top at Madewell that will be prefect for our trip. Naturally, I could not wait to dress like I was at the beach, since it is 90+ degrees in Dallas. I threw on the blue striped top with my favorite Levi’s shorts to run some wedding errands around town. This top also looks great with white jeans for the office, or tucked into a white lace skirt for brunch. I also added my favorite slides (similar) and this fun Cult Gaia bamboo bag. Follow along on Instagram stories for behind the scenes of our wedding and trip to Punta Cana! xoxo

White Ruffle Dress

Dress: ASOS // Shoes: Schutz // Clutch: J.Crew // Jewelry: Kendra Scott (similar)

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Today is really just an excuse for me to add a pop of color to my wardrobe, sit on a patio, and eat tex-mex until I burst. Which is exactly what I am doing, you will find me in this white ruffle dress enjoying the patio weather and cheating on my wedding diet. I wore this white ruffle dress to dinner a few weeks ago over my bachelorette weekend. The elastic waist makes the ruffle flattering, and I plan to take this dress on my honeymoon because it is perfect for the beach. It fits true to size (wearing a small) and pairs well with flats or wedges. I chose to wear these raffia wedges and a matching clutch from J.Crew (similar). To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, I added a pop of turquoise with these Kendra Scott earrings and bracelet (similar). Shop this festive look and similar white ruffle dresses below! xoxo
