We have been so busy working on our new house, that summer has flown by. I finally took a break from decorating to make time for a date night and enjoy the last few weeks of Dallas heat. I bought this black ruffle set around my birthday for an outdoor concert and it was perfect for our dinner on the patio at Dolce Riviera.
This black ruffle set from Free People is perfect for the 100+ degree weather we have all summer. I wear the skirt high on my waist, so that it looks more like a dress, but it can be worn lower to show a bit of midriff. The material breathes really well and doesn’t show sweat, which makes it perfect for any outdoor event. I paired it with some classic black strappy heels and my favorite Rebecca Minkoff clutch. Today is my 25th birthday! It is hard to image that I am a quarter of a century old when I still feel like I am 10 most days. I never thought I would be married, own a home, or still running a blog at this point in my life – but I am couldn’t be more happy with where I am! I wanted to share the five most important things I have learned in 25 years (and this amazing black dress!). I have learned that family and friends are always the most important, everything that happens is always a part of a larger plan, don’t take things so personally from others, treat others better than you want to be treated, and it is impossible to please everyone. There is a story behind each of these lessons, but no one has time for that 🙂 I cannot wait to see what I learn in the next 25 years!
Outfit details: I am wearing a black linen dress by Free People, paired with raffia woven wedges from Schutz. This dress is perfect for summer heat and so easy to dress up or dress down! It was perfect to wear out to dinner and on a night with friends. I love the details on the sleeves and the buttons down the front of the midi length dress. What is better than on oversized black sweater? Okay, I know I probably love black a little too much and the oversized sweater and legging look is really just for comfort, but I seriously love this sweater. I picked up this oversized black sweater on a whim for a football game, which ended up being super cold. I put this sweater to the real test in 40-degree weather, and it was surprisingly very warm. I recommend going a size down in this sweater though. The oversized description is no joke, I am wearing an extra small, and it still fits very large on me. Even after a few washes I have not experienced any pilling or shedding, and the material is still as soft as it was when I purchased the sweater. I paired this oversized black sweater with my favorite leather leggings and black over the knee boots. This sweater also pairs well with skinny jeans or half tucked into a skirt. To complete my look I added my favorite Rebecca Minkoff clutch, and these adorable bow hoops from J.Crew. Shop my all black look below! xoxo
Attending Austin City Limits has always been on my bucket list, and after seeing this year’s line up I decided to finally do it. Three days of live music and endless Tex-Mex and barbecue was absolutely incredible. My favorite bands were the Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Killers, but I also enjoyed Jay-Z, Andrew McMahon, Martin Garrix, Ice Cube, Luke Combs, and many more!
Details about my day one outfit: I found this Free People dress at Nordstrom in a few colors, but of course had to have it in black. This dress fits a little large (wearing an extra small), so I recommend ordering a size smaller. I love the gold and red colors in the embroidery, so that I could wear this black dress with my new cowboy boots. I went on a serious hunt for the perfect brown boots, and thank goodness for Allen’s Boots on South Congress in Austin. They were extremely knowledgeable and helped me order these Grace boots directly from Lucchese. They fit true to size (wearing an 8 with a 7 toe) and were comfortable for most of the day. I will admit though, by the time I reached 20,000 steps for the day, these boots were really starting to take their toll. I recommend breaking them in well and even adding extra inserts before walking that far. To complete my festival look, I added this fringed Rebecca Minkoff purse and some layered chokers from Madewell.
Details about my day two outfit: I remembered seeing this Red Hot Chili Pepper tank at Nordstrom and knew I had to have it for Austin City Limits. This tank fits a little large under the arms (wearing a small) so I layered it with a Free People bralette for full coverage. It was perfect for the 90 degree heat we had in Austin and paired well denim shorts. These distressed Levi shorts have been my favorite denim shorts for a few summers now. They do not fit too tight (wearing a 25) and are long enough to feel comfortable moving around in. Since the cowboy boots ended up not being ideal for a full day of walking, I decided to switch to these Dolce Vita sneakers for the rest of Austin City Limits. They were much more comfortable, but this outfit looked so great with a pair of fringed leather booties.
Details about my day three outfit: This black O’Neill dress was too cute to pass up. It fits true to size (wearing a small) and was somewhat breathable in the heat. Since it is black it was a little hot, and there is a slip underneath that clung to me whenever I sat down. It paired well with these Dolce Vita sneakers that I decided I had to wear again for comfort and with layered necklaces. This dress looked great with my cowboy boots, which I will probably pair it when in the future when I am not walking as much. I had a blast at Austin City Limits and I highly recommend that everyone add it to their bucket list! xoxo
When I was little, I used to pick out my dresses based on the “twirl test”. I would stand in the middle of my room, and spin as fast as I could, to see how much wind my dress would catch. Every now and then I will try on a dress and catch myself spinning around in the fitting room. When I passed this floral maxi dress on a mannequin in Nordstrom, I just had to see how it would twirl!
This floral maxi dress fits true to size (wearing a small) and is the perfect length for almost any height. If you are shorter than 5’3″ you will probably need to have this dressed hemmed to keep it from over powering you. The chest area does run a little large, so you might want to try a size smaller if you have a smaller chest. I love the button detail down the back of the dress especially because you can put on the dress without having do undo a single button. There is a zipper (on the side) and hooks (in front) that make this dress easy to put on and take off. It also comes in a rust red color with darker flowers that is perfect for fall. Since there is so much material to this dress, it kind of speaks for itself and does not need to be over accessorized. This dress goes great with simple sandals or heels, so I paired it with my favorite strappy nude sandals (similar). I added a simple gold necklace, my favorite gold hoops (similar), and a woven clutch to complete the look. Shop this look below! xoxo
I love a good chi tea latte, and Halcyon Coffee is one of my favorite spots in Dallas to get one. They stay open later than most coffee shops, so it is a great place to go after work or on the weekends. Halcyon Coffee offers a full menu and a full service bar in addition to their delicious coffee. I planned date night last week and decided we should start our weekday date with a little pick me up after work. Since I was coming from the office, I wanted to wear something comfortable and office appropriate but still look cute for our date night. This peplum tee and my favorite distressed jeans were just the answer!
I absolutely love this peplum teefrom Free People, and it is perfect for a fun weekend look or a casual date night. Thispeplum teeis meant to fit a little oversized (wearing a small), comes in 5 great colors, and is less than $50. The white version of this tee is sitting in my shopping cart now (whoops!). I chose to pair it withwhite distressed jeans, but it also looks great with denim shorts. A few weeks ago Ishared these black distressed jeans and mentioned that theyalso came in white. Well… I loved the black version so much that I went back to J.Crew and got the white too! They fit true to size (wearing a 26 regular) and have just the right amount of stretch to them. I had mentioned that the black version picked up lint easily, but the white version does not have the same issue. I completed this outfit with a simpleGorjana necklaceand the most comfortableDolce Vita mules. Shop this entire look below, and be sure to stop byHalcyon Coffeesometime! xoxo
