Valentine’s Day is this Wednesday! Last week I shared this pink dress that I was planning on wearing for Valentine’s Day, but now I am torn between a few dresses. Not only is that pink dress perfect for Wednesday, but this red velvet dress would be great too and there is even a black slip dress in the Valentine’s Day mix as well (yes, another black dress).
This red velvet dress fits true to size (wearing a small) and has adjustable straps, which made the top of this dress a lot less loose. It is a faux wrap dress, so it has the flattering look of a wrap dress, but a zipper up the back. The bow in the front is the perfect touch of feminine detail completing the faux wrap look. I paired this red velvet dress with my go-to black pumps, Rebecca Minkoff clutch and some fun black beaded earrings. Shop this look and some of my other favorite red velvet dresses below and wish me luck in deciding between three great Valentine’s Day dresses! xoxo
My previous Wedding Wednesday posts have been all about planning a wedding, but today I wanted to focus a little more on wedding guests. I always have a difficult time finding proper wedding guest attire for winter weddings, particularly with a cocktail or black tie optional dress code. Recently I came across this Maggy London dress at Nordstrom, and it was perfect for a late fall black tie optional wedding. You know I am a sucker for a black dress, but I loved how the material of this dress had both black and navy in the pattern. Mid length dresses, like this Maggy London, are great for winter because they are easier to wear without tights. I paired this dress with my favorite pair of black heels and a Rebecca Minkoff black clutch, but it also gores great with navy. I have linked similar dresses that are great for winter weddings below! xoxo
When I started seeing velvet appear in stores for fall, I was a little hesitant to purchase any. I tried on this tank and skirt together in J.Crew and loved it. I knew that velvet and leather would be the perfect combo to introduce the trend into my wardrobe. This velvet tank fits true to size (wearing a small) and also comes in light pink and blue green. The velvet pairs perfectly with this pleated leather skirt from J.Crew, but also looks great with denim. This skirt fits a little large (wearing a 0, but a 00 would have fit better) and is a midi length. As it gets colder outside, this skirt also pairs well with a black turtleneck or a velvet jacket. To complete my look I added my favorite black leather pumps, a classic black leather bucket bag (similar), and black tassel earrings. Shop this entire outfit below! xoxo
I love tweed and I love structured jackets, so when I saw this metallic tweed jacket at J.Crew, it was literally calling my name! The metallic silver and white color is perfect for winter and the transition into spring. I also love the fact that this jacket is fully lined, so I can wear a tank or short sleeve top (like this one pictured above) under it without the tweed being itchy. The jacket is a little short all around, so I ended up buying a size 2 and it fits perfectly. The black zipper and fringe detail gives great contrast, to make this jacket more of a statement piece. I chose to pair the jacket with my favorite high waisted jeans, a comfortable black tee and basic black pumps for a more casual look. If you want to dress this jacket up, it will go nicely with a black shift dress, or the matching a-line dress from J.Crew. You can find this jacket at Nordstrom or J.Crew, but it is currently on sale at J.Crew only (take an extra 40% off until January 30th with code: GETSHOPPING)! xoxo
Christmas is finally here!!! Since Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year, that means I will be attending two church services and will need a nice outfit for Christmas Day as well as Christmas Eve. I will be wearing this plaid mid length skirt and turtle neck for Christmas Eve. Last year I saw this plaid mid length skirt at Kate Spade, and fell in love but they were completely sold out in my size. A few weeks ago I was in the Kate Spade outlet at Allen Premium Outlets, and saw this skirt on a mannequin. I shamelessly had the employees take apart the mannequin, because I knew I had the perfect black turtleneck and pumps to pair it with in my closet. I am wearing a 0 in the skirt, and it is still a little large in the waist, so I recommend trying size smaller than you would normally wear. I paired the skirt with a basic black turtleneck from Gap (wearing a small), my favorite black leather pumps from Charles David (wearing a 8) and a long strand of pearls.
On Christmas Day I will be wearing this deep red dress and a black tweed blazer from J.Crew. I purchased this dress for a wedding earlier in December, but because it is short sleeved I add a tweed jacket for Christmas. I love the fit of this classic tweed jacket, it is easy to move in and the length hits my arms and waist perfectly. I also love the detail of the pimping, pockets and gold buttons. If you like matching sets there is also a tweed pencil skirt that matches this jacket. I am wearing a 0 both the dress and jacket, the jacket fits true to size but the dress is a little snug through the hips so I would recommend going a size up. I also paired this look with my favorite black pumps, a gold and black clutch from Elements Dallas, and a short strand of pearls. Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and blessed 2017! xoxo
Thanksgiving is such a special time with family, and everyone has their own wonderful traditions. My family spends Thanksgiving at my grandmother’s house (remember Monna) where we enjoy a full feast before watching the Dallas Cowboys, and decorating her house for Christmas. We start the day in our “nice” clothes to take a family photo and enjoy my grandmother’s wonderful cooking, but soon change into our sweats for an evening full of football and leftovers. While I will probably we wearing something similar to the outfit above, I am also sharing two of my favorite casual Thanksgiving outfits as well!
This skirt and blouse are perfect for a more formal Thanksgiving, or brunch at the country club. I found this blouse at Banana Republic last year (wish I had bought every color), but I have linked some similar blouses (like this one) at the bottom of the post. Thisfaux wrap skirtis currently on sale at J.Crew, but only until November 27th. Use code HOLIDAY to receive 40% off, and if you have a student ID, you can receive an extra 15% off! I love the fit and texture of this skirt, however it does run a bit big, I am wearing a 00 and it is still a little loose in the waist. I paired this look with pearls and simple nude pumps, but the skirt does have both navy and black in it making it look great with navy or black heels as well.
This look is perfect for a slightly more casual Thanksgiving lunch or dinner. Banana Republic has some great fall pieces on sale right now includingthis sweaterwhich also comes in 10 other fall color. I am wearing a small (fits true to size), but the best part is this sweater is not itchy! The vest I am wearing above is from J.Crew about 3 years ago, but J.Crew Factory has a similar vestwith the same pattern.J.Crew has the exact same vest but in different colors. This vest does run a little large as I am wearing an extra small and still have plenty of room for a thicker sweater underneath. I paired this look with my favoriteskinny jeans from Gap and these gorgeousover the knee black boots from ASOS. I am wearing a size 8 in these boots (fits true to size) and have room for thick socks without the boots bunching up along the sides.
My final Thanksgiving outfit is a casual dress for a warmer football filled Thanksgiving. This dressis currently 40% off at Nordstrom and comes in black, maroon, burnt orange, and two striped colors. I am wearing a small and it fits well through the arms and in length (it just looks shorter with my legs). Since the dress is short sleeved, I paired it with aclassic denim jacket from Gapand somefun fringed booties. For a warmer look, the booties could be swapped out for knee high or over the knee boots.
